DISCOVER DBT SKILLS WITH THE HEALING HOUSE

Teen DBT group Young Adult DBT group

What is a DBT Skills Group?

Our DBT skills groups are designed to empower and provide valuable tools to navigate the complexities of life. In a supportive and non-judgmental environment, clients will learn to cope with stress, improve relationships, and develop a strong sense of self. We believe in fostering resilience, emotional intelligence, and empowerment in a community of peers who understand the journey.

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) consists of four interconnected modules, providing individuals with a comprehensive set of skills to navigate life's challenges:

  1. Mindfulness: This module focuses on cultivating present-moment awareness, helping individuals observe their thoughts and emotions without judgment. Mindfulness skills enhance self-awareness and promote a non-reactive, centered approach to handling situations.
  2. Distress Tolerance: Offering practical strategies for coping with intense emotions, distress tolerance skills equip individuals to manage crises effectively. Techniques include distraction, self-soothing, and finding ways to tolerate distress without resorting to harmful behaviors.
  3. Emotion Regulation: Aimed at understanding and managing emotions, this module teaches individuals how to identify and label emotions, understand their functions, and develop healthier ways to respond to intense feelings. Emotion regulation skills promote emotional balance and reduce impulsive reactions.
  4. Interpersonal Effectiveness: Focused on improving communication and relationships, interpersonal effectiveness skills empower individuals to navigate social interactions assertively and maintain self-respect. This module helps build effective communication, set boundaries, and negotiate relationships successfully.

Together, these four modules form the foundation of DBT, providing a holistic approach to personal growth and emotional well-being.

How do DBT skills groups work?

Our DBT skills groups meet once a week for 75 minutes. Each group is designed to implement mindfulness practices, skills coaching and accountability for incorporating skills. We believe in using interactive approaches to learning the DBT skills and work to keep group meetings engaging and informative.

DBT skills groups are content dense so it takes approximately 6 months to get through one round of all the DBT content. We see the best outcomes when clients stay for two rounds. Most clients stay in group for 6-12 months depending on helpfulness. We recommend if you are unsure about DBT, that you try it out for 4 weeks to gauge if it's a good fit for you.

Our skills groups follow an open group format, creating a dynamic space where seasoned members and newcomers come together. This unique structure fosters a collaborative environment where participants can exchange insights, offer support, and learn from one another’s experiences, enhancing both personal growth and skill development.

Our DBT skills groups are focused on education of the skills and not processing trauma or individual struggles in depth. We recommend that clients have an individual therapist to meet with in conjunction with group sessions.

Each group is $50 and is billed in 4 week increments to help support accountability to showing up each week.

The Healing House does work with most Aetna insurances.
